The purpose of the educational and empathy-focused simulation game, Autism Simulator, is to help you better understand the daily struggles and experiences of people with autism. The game immerses you in sensory environments that simulate the overstimulation, communication challenges, and cognitive patterns characteristic of autism, rather than emphasizing competition or high scores.
You control a character who must navigate a variety of realistic settings, such as a crowded street, a supermarket, or a bustling classroom. Sensory stimuli such as flashing lights, loud noises, or overlapping conversations are present in every setting. When performing simple tasks such as following instructions or interacting with others, you must control your character's comfort and stress levels.
The visual and auditory distortions simulate the sensory overload that many autistic people experience as they navigate each environment. The goal of the game is to help you understand how difficult even seemingly simple tasks can be for autistic people, rather than helping them “win.”
